The pack had enough space for 2 bottles of water, a large professional camera, a windbreaker, and various small hiking items (compass, matches, poncho, flint, etc.)
The slightly padded board in the back prevented the items inside from poking me. The padded straps somewhat helped support the weight of the items, but my shoulders were sore after taking the pack off. Overall, this was a comfortable, spacious backpack to wear and it shouldn't cause any shoulder pain if carrying under 15 pounds of equipment.

It's larger than a school-type backpack, but still not huge and will be great for traveling. The color is a little more muted than the picture shows, but I actually like it better in person. It has plenty of pockets and storage, although there isn't a huge space for a laptop if you're wanting that. Overall, looks great, can't wait to use it!
