Badlands Ultra Day Pack Review, January 9, 2013 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Badlands Ultra Day Pack (Sports) The Ultra Day is a well build pack with some unique features but there are some areas that as a personal preferance I am not to fond of which is why I give it a 4/5.
First is the hypervent system although I love how this keeps your back cool it has some sideeffects I am not crazy about. For one it adds a lot of weight due to the frame which gives it its shape. Also it dramatically decreases the carrying capacity of the pack leaving little space for much of a hydration system. A mild pressure point is also formed in 2 spots on the lower back were the pack rest although its not to a point of being uncomfortable especially when packing light. The front zipper is waterproof which is a nice touch however it has a mesh backing leading into the rest of the pack including the hydration system, also to my knowledge the other zippers are not waterproof so a punctured hydration bag may soak your "waterproof compartment" other that that I feel you would have to go swimming with... I planned on using it specifically for day-long hunting trips. After receiving it however, I did not feel it was suitable for what I wanted so I returned it. I mean I really wanted to love this bag, and I should say the quality of the bag is awesome. The fabric is soft and quiet, it has very stong seems, the design of the harness is excellent, the pack is light, and the overall design of the bag (with the AP camo) is terriffic. What is missing in its design is a way to organize all the various items that someone takes on a hunting trip.
I have been using a 511 Tactical Rush 6 bag for this purpose, but I wanted something larger ... something that I might be able to stuff a jacket in if it started getting warm. Although the Ultra Day Pack is certainly larger, unlike the Rush bag it lacks any organization. The main pocket is somewhat hard to open due to the buckles that cross the front of the pack.
