Beautifully built, but quirky design limits its utility, August 23, 2011 This review is from: Osprey Men's Waypoint 65 Travel Backpack (Sports) The Waypoint 65 is, like all Osprey packs, beautifully built, and quite attractive. The main pack is unexpectedly capacious, both by design and through conservative specsmanship.
The daypack is very nicely organized, with an effective laptop compartment and padding for the fragile electronics that will be carried within.
The Waypoint's suspension system is actually capable of handling a heavy load comfortably for the shorter distances that the typical traveler will walk. These features have made it quite popular.
But unlike Osprey's innovative and functional hiking backpacks, the Waypoint's unusual design limits its versatility, especially its ability to adapt to less-than-full loads.
If this review seems very critical, it's out of frustration; the Waypoint could be the best travel bag on the market, but it misses the mark in a couple of key areas. More on that in a minute.

Just the right size to sneak onto a plane and avoid checking a bag.., July 26, 2011 By Johann Grimm (The Republic of California) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Osprey Men's Waypoint 65 Travel Backpack (Sports) I've owned the Waypoint for 10 months, purchased it to avoid checked baggage fees, and have taken it on 3 trips (none for actual backpacking) through 5 airports. I'm a former amateur backpacker & bivouacer. I've owned the Gregory Z65 Backpacking Light Pack, an Army issue external frame pack, and a well out of production external frame pack from back in the mid 80s. I've also owned a number of daypacks and am now convinced that Osprey makes the best backpacks on the planet.
This pack probably fits into the casual lightweight category. It's heavier than an ultralight or fastpacker's pack and doesn't feel like it's designed for rugged trail use. The internal support is similar to that of an ultralight pack, but slightly more. Back ventilation is basically a joke, but workable and reasonable for this category. No real... Read more
Osprey Men's Waypoint 65, March 1, 2013 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Osprey Men's Waypoint 65 Travel Backpack (Sports) Well made, and very comfortsble when correctly packed. It could use a few more internal cargo straps. Packing cubes are a great remedy for this if using as luggage. Perfect carry-on size on flights in 737's or bigger. Removing day-pack can even make it work in many regional jets.
