5.0 out of 5 stars Osprey 25 Day Pack, April 19, 2010
By
This review is from: Osprey Manta 25 Daypack (Misc.)
I just took this pack on a 12 mile day hike though the Red Rock Canyon, NV. And carried on the plane both ways from the east coast. During the hike, it was 75 deg. out and my back stayed cool due to the ventilation design. It has many well designed pockets, 2 hip pockets, and a built in rain cover. The pack is light weight and stayed in place while hiking, and scaling boulders and rocks. I have the Storm Gray, which is green. The hydrating pack worked well, since I did not have the compression straps real tight, I did not have the pressure flow I read about on the Osprey web site. I didn't know you needed to do this until I returned from my trip. Still, it worked well and I really like the magnet that keeps the bite value in place. My torsos is between 18.75 - 19.75" depending exactly how I stand, which is halfway between the S/M and a M/L sizes. When calling Osprey they recommend the S/M. The S/M fit two tight on me (felt a little short and the S/M is a 22 LTR), I exchanged it for... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect day pack, April 11, 2010
By
This review is from: Osprey Manta 25 Daypack (Misc.)
I purchased a Manta 25 for all the clever features that had previously been available on larger packs designed for multi-day adventures. It has so far performed better than I'd hoped. The storm gray (actually storm green)color looks great. The pack is very comfortable, even with the reservoir fully filled with 3 L of water and all the compartments stuffed. The longest hike I've used it on so far was 7 miles but there were a lot of up-and-down stretches. There was no water sloshing, the hipbelt and chest strap were comfortable (though there were a few short moments when I felt more padding in the shoulder straps would be an improvement). The hydration tube across my chest worked out okay with a small camera hung around my neck, though my large DSLR might have caused some problems. The hipbelt pockets were easily accessible - compared to a larger pack I own - and the centered daisy chain and other straps allowed hat, dog water bowl, etc. to be hung off the pack for easy access but... 4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent technical day pack, June 12, 2012
This review is from: Osprey Manta 25 Daypack (Misc.)
Wanted a pack that I could use between cycling, hiking and as an urban daypack. Probably a bit too technical for being an urban daypack, but does the job.

I had picked up the Manta with lower volume previously, but figured it had too limited space to be of much use for long day rides or hikes. Switches quite well between cycling and hiking for me. Also, works well as an urban daypack. A 15" laptop fits in quite well, but leery about using it too often for that purpose. But it is so pretty that I can not avoid that temptation on some days.

Back to it's features, has enough pockets, including on the hip belt. The contour of the bag and the way all the straps come together, the bag doesn't threaten to move while riding. I also like that feature where you could hang your helmet. Nice touch that.

Only thing I hate about the pack is the magnetic piece to hold your hydration hose's mouthpiece. It is a magnet for dust. And so close to the water... Read more
