good backpack, March 2, 2011 By derek bilte (DANVILLE, CA, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Osprey Kode 30 Pack (Sports) i use my backpack for both resort skiing and some serious backcountry.
pro:
-feels great when loaded with skis poles, other gear
-holds pleantly of hydration
-side pockets are large enough for camera, phone, wallet, etc
cons:
-floats a little bit when backpack is loaded for 6-8 lbs or less
-the "black" backpack is not black but a grey... not even a dark grey but a grey grey. black is a mislable
-little hard to get into the pack when in the backcountry.
wish:
-the pack was actually black
-there was an exterior pocket that was easily accessable with simply day use storage (flashlight, wallet, sandwitch, etc)
OVERALL:
- i tried on over 15 different packs. this pack had the best features, was the most comfortable when loaded, and had a better design than most. is it perfect? no. but its the best out there right now for backcountry skiing.

Osprey Kode 30 Pack, October 29, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Osprey Kode 30 Pack (Sports) I bought this pack specifically for back-country skiing, but it works great for mountain hikes and snow shoeing as well. When one is not carrying his skis on the pack he can easily use it to carry hiking poles. The pack is very easily adjustable to ensure everything is snug and won't jostle around while you are active on the mountain. I like ice axe carriers that cover the head of the axe, while the Kode 30 leaves it out in the open, but then again, how many backpacks enable one to carry a helmet, ice axe, skis and water all at the same time? The straps are all heavy duty and will surely hold up to the wear and tear of an intense day in the back-country.
The main compartment is very deep and great for keeping extra layers, no need to cover everything in plastic bags, it all stays dry. If one is really worried about it, there is a waterproof compartment hidden on the back panel which is great for carrying camera equipment or distress transceivers to really ensure they... Read more
This product is not black but grey., March 6, 2013 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Osprey Kode 30 Pack (Sports) The pack itself is one of the better ski mountaineering and general skiing packs. It comes in two different sizes, and if you have a long torso you need to purchase the L, not the medium. The collar strap is high, but it is not a significant draw back. My daughter purchased this, it would not fit me - the shoulder strap adjustments do not allow for significant change.
